Dr. William S. Shaw is Associate Professor and Chief, Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington, Connecticut, USA.  Dr. Shaw has 25 years of research experience in the field of occupational health and safety.  With a primary training background in engineering and clinical psychology, his research activities have focused on workplace pain, disability, and return-to-work, especially the impact of psychosocial and organizational factors on work outcomes after acute musculoskeletal injuries or the development of chronic health conditions.  He currently serves as Co-Director of the Center for Promotion of Health in the New England Workplace (CPH-NEW), one of ten NIOSH Centers of Excellence for Total Worker Health®.  He has more than 125 published scientific journal articles in the fields of occupational medicine, pain, health psychology, and occupational rehabilitation.
